Singer songwriter guitarist Judy Brown of Nelson has just release her first CD called Say It, that is already receiving airplay across Canada and is in regular rotation on Stingray Music’s ‘The Blues Channel’.

Say It could be classified as a re-entry recording, representing a journey in roots music and blues that began in Edmonton followed by 30 years in Toronto.

In 2017 Brown  made two life changing decisions.  First, a move to Nelson BC to be close to family and surrounded by this city’s rich and supportive arts community.  Second a return to recording with long time musical friends, collaborators and producers Gary Kendall and Teddy Leonard.

Say It was recorded in Toronto at Loud Mouse Studios with an all star, award winning team, including engineer L. Stu Young (Prince, Downchilld), keyboardist Michael Fonfara (Downchild, Lou Reed), drummer Jimmy Casson (Mighty Duck Blues Band, Downchild), bassist Gary Kendall (Downchild, Maple Blues Band) and guitarist Teddy Leonard (Fathead, Maple Blues Band).

Nelson’s own Bessie Wapp provides backup vocals on six of the 13 songs which were recorded by Rick Lingard of Kootenay Music Academy. Other guest musicians include Colin Linden on mandolin on a tune along with Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar providing backup vocals on another two songs.  Brown ’s daughter Emily Ekelund sings backup on two songs and Truro, Nova Scotia harp man Jeff Baker jumps in on another tune.

On Saturday, June 9th 8 p.m. at Finleys Bar and Grill in Nelson, Judy will perform many of the songs from the new CD.

Brown will be joined by a small group of the many top Kootenay musicians, including horn player Clinton Swanson, guitarist Ralf Buschmeyer, bassist Mark Spielman, drummer Steven Parish and Bessie Wapp on backup vocals.
