Nelson Sea Cadet, Caleb Johnson from 81 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp Hampton Gray VC in Nelson, got a taste of the program during the level one boot camp in Trail.

Cadet Johnson, 13,  joined the Nelson Sea Cadets in September of this year after his curiosity was caught when his uncle had told him about the programme. He has learned about sailing, seamanship, and marksmanship so far this year and looks forward to learning more.

Recently, Cadet Johnson was one of many cadets from the Kootenay area who participate in the level one boot camp. He and other cadets from other units were taught everything a new cadet needs to know in order to be successful in the cadet programme. They learned proper uniform care (as seen above), physical fitness, drill, and the cadet ranks.

He received the full cadet experience by sleeping in a tent and eating military rations with his fellow cadets.

“I really like the MRE’s (meals ready to eat). They don’t taste terrible.” Johnson said when asked about the rations.
