The Nelson Leafs Recycling Centre — Bottle Depot — is back up and running after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Located in the former Star Transfer building at 120 Silica Street behind Nelson Ford, the Nelson Leafs Recycling Centre has been providing beverage container recycling services for the Nelson Area since 1982.

As the need for recycling has grown so too has the bottle depot.

As an authorized Encorp Pacific (Canada) depot, the Leafs Recycling Centre accepts and refunds full deposit on literally hundreds of beverage containers, including glass and plastic bottles, aluminium pop cans, apple and tomato juice tins, bag-in-a-box and pouch containers, drink cartons and plastic jugs.

The facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Staff at the Nelson Leafs Recycling Centre ask the public to arrive at the facility no later than 2:30 p.m., as the operation has been extremely busy due to the collection of recycling due to COVID-19 self-isolation.

The Nelson Leafs Recycling Centre — Bottle Depot — is a key fundraiser for the Nelson Leafs Hockey Society, which operates a franchise in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Staff at Nelson Leafs Recycling Centre ask the public practice social distancing during the processing of recycling.
