Nelson hosts Sarah Beckett Memorial Run

More than 60 people, mostly from the first responder community, took advantage of perfect running weather to support the inaugural Sarah Beckett Memorial Run on the waterfront in Nelson.

The Nelson run was part of the provincially-coordinated Sarah Beckett Memorial Run held on Vancouver Island.

The event was in support of Cst. Sarah Beckett, who died tragically in the line of duty after her marked police vehicle was struck by a pickup in the early hours of on April 5, 2016 in Langford, BC.

Money raised from the Sarah Beckett Memorial Run will be donated to the Capital Regional District Traffic Safety Commission, which had created the Cst. Sarah Beckett Memorial Scholarship.

The 2018 winner of the $2,000 scholarship was Nathanial Blondeau. Blondeau received the scholarship for demonstrating academic achievement, financial need, community service record while expressing interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
