Nelson Hospice Tree of Remembrance

For many years now, Nelsonites have grown accustomed to walking through the busy mall at holiday time and finding a place of calm, connection and reflection at the Nelson Hospice Tree of Remembrance.
It is there that people are invited to write a card to remember loved ones that have died and place it on the Tree, share a story of their loved ones with Nelson Hospice volunteers, or just reflect about the year that has gone by.
“It is so hard at the best of times to get through a holiday season when you’re grieving the death of loved one,” Nelson Hospice Executive Director Jane DiGiacomo said,
“Our Tree of Remembrance has always provided a space and place for people to reflect on their losses, or to celebrate those they have lost. Most of all, the Tree has given Nelsonites a place where they know their stories of loss and love will be heard.”
So, as with everything else 2020, Nelson Hospice had to find a new approach to its Tree of Remembrance. And also like so much else 2020, the Tree has gone online. Nelson Hospice created its Virtual Tree of Remembrance online at https://tree.nelsonhospice.org.
There, anyone can post a message, choose a decoration for the tree and even attach a photo of their loved one.
And, of course, if they wish, leave a donation for Nelson Hospice.
“We knew the Tree would be missed by many and we’re so glad we could find a way to make it happen in the virtual world,” said Ms. DiGiacomo.
” Even better, we found ways that we can share pictures to truly “see” what our loved ones have meant to us, even after they are gone.”
