Mitchell Scott from Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine is at the podium Wednesday (May 11th) at 7:30 p.m. at Oxygen Art Centre.

With more than 20 years as a creative professional, Scott has worked as a writer, editor, director, creative director, and producer across a number of different genres including magazine publishing, film and web content marketing.

He is the acting co-publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Mountain Culture Group, which publishes Kootenay and Coast Mountain Culture Magazines and currently lives in Nelson.

Scott’s talk will focus on the opportunities associated with being able to write well.

From journalling to writing pitches, screenplay to creative briefs, even emails, being able to write opens so many doors both within ourselves and into the world around us.

And when it comes to anything that relies on any sort of narrative structure — books, magazine articles, movies, commercials, etc — they all start with writing.

Why?

Because writing not only helps us to organize and convey ideas, it plays a huge part in actually creating the ideas themselves. That’s the creative genius in the craft, and why it’s so crucial to understand not only how it works, but where it can take you.

Oxygen Art Centre is located at 320 Vernon street in Nelson (enter from the back alley).

All presentations are by donation and everyone is welcome. (Recommended donation is $5.)
