Marketfest a success, Cottonwood, Downtown markets continue through summer

The West Kootenay EcoSociety once again brought the legendary MarketFest back to Baker Street in June and is already planning for the next event July 27.

The sun was shining, the music was playing and smiles were everywhere.

EcoSociety’s Markets Director Jesse R. Woodward worked with vendors, business owners, and city agencies to ensure that MarketFest was a great success.

“We’re delighted with the response from all who were involved in making the June MarketFest a wonderfully successful event including the vendors, the city, and businesses along Baker Street.

June MarketFest was completely sold out with 100 vendors displaying their amazing verity of offerings” he said.

“It was remarkable to see all the creativity and care that the vendors put into their products and displays.

MarketFest attendees had a fantastic verity of  products  to chose from including include hand-made hats and shoes, locally made clothing and jewellery, and an array of body and home care products and, of course, lots of different and delicious ready to eat foods.”

New for this year, a food court area on Kootenay Street was added to MarketFest that made it easier for festival goers to find and choose from the wide selection of ready to eat foods that were on hand.

What better way to spend a warm summer evening then eating scrumptious fresh foods, shopping for locally made goods and listening to wonderful live music.

The West Kootenay EcoSociety operates MarketFest as a project to promote a relocalization of our economy and to create a meeting place for arts, culture and community networking.

The EcoSociety also runs the Saturday Cottonwood Community Market at Cottonwood Falls Park and the Wednesday Nelson Downtown Local Market on the 400 block of Baker Street. Both Markets run from 9:30 am to 3 p.m.
