MarketFest is once again back on Baker Street this July 28nd starting at 6 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m.

This is a rain or shine event but with luck the weather will be beautiful, the sun will shine, and the music will soar. This MarketFest musical line-up is power packed with amazing acts such asSlava Doval’s – “Dance Locale: Local Dance”, Baker Street Blues,Gabriel Palatchi Trio andThe Sophistocrats featuring Bethany Petch. This all happens on the Falls St. Stage that is sponsored, very kindly, by The Savoy Hotel. At the Stanley St. Stage, which is hosted by Blue Night, therewill be live painting by Kelly Shpeley, Rhandi Sandford, Alicla Fritz, Joe Nillo, Amber Santos, Avrell Fox and more plus paint by numbers with Touchstones. Also at this stage there will be giant bubbles, drumming and dancing.

EcoSociety’s Markets & Events Director Jesse Woodward is once again working with vendors, business owners, and city agencies to ensure that July MarketFest is a great success.

“The 2016 June MarketFest event was hampered by heavy rain so in 2017 EcoSociety decided to reduce the weather risks and only run the July and August editions of these annual street party events,” Woodward said.

“I am hoping that the weather will be with us this time.I think if the weather is good it will be a very packed market with thousands of people taking in the festivities and performances.” MarketFest attendees will, as always, have a fantastic verity of  products  to choose from including include hand-made hats and clothes, locally made pottery and jewellery, and an array of body care products and, of course, lots of different and delicious ready-to-eat foods.

MarketFest will once again have the food court area on and around Baker and Kootenay Street. This set up makes it very easy makes for festival goers to find and choose from the wide selection of ready to eat foods that will be on hand. What better way to spend a warm summer evening then eating scrumptious fresh foods, shopping for locally made goods and watching to wonderful live music, dance and painting.

The West Kootenay EcoSociety operates MarketFest as a project to promote the local economy and to create a meeting place for arts, culture and community networking.

The EcoSociety also runs the Saturday Cottonwood Community Market at Cottonwood Falls Park and the Wednesday Nelson Downtown Local Market on the 400 block of Baker Street.
