A small class projected blossomed into a full gown garden/greenhouse as the Global Perspectives class of L.V. Rogers Secondary culminated a successful year in the dirt.

The project, that began with a few students and teacher and located on the back side of the school near the stairs to the school fields, quickly created a buzz throughout LVR.

Soon Technology teacher had students in build a greenhouse, the Foods Class cooked with the produce — omatoes, carrots, zucchinis, parsley, cilantro and basil — from the garden, the Special Needs Class uses garden work as a therapeutic activity and the Global Perspectives Class tied the garden into the curriculum.

However, the Global Perspectives class realizes the success could not have been without the support of the community and would like to thank the following organizations for supporting their fundraising efforts for human rights and sustainability projects:

The Kootenay Co-op, Home Hardware, Ellison’s, Otter Books, Nelson Star, United Church, The School Garden Network, Selkirk College Music and Technology Program, The Nelson Daily online news service and Hall Printing.
