Local artists featured Saturday at Kootenay Woodstoves

Kootenay Woodstoves in Nelson is hosting an art show Saturday (June 21) featuring a couple of local artists — Lucas Jmieff and Chad Thompson.

Jmieff is one of the premiere landscape photographers of BC, Canada.

The Nelson local is a self-taught maverick behind the lens, best known for his iconic mountain images presented on canvas. Inspired by a lifelong appreciation for the the natural world, Jmieff combines progressive camera techniques with the mountains, sky, water and trees of the Kootenay wilderness to create spectacular works of art.

Jmieff’s stunning landscape photographs have made their way into private collections, galleries, businesses and cozy homes worldwide.

Thompson grew up on a ranch bordering Kananakskis country in Alberta.

At a young age he learned a great respect for Mother Earth, drawing pride and inspiration from the his native ancestory.

Thompson works mainly in acrylic paints, but also indulges in antler, stone and wood sculpture, jewelry design, artifact reproduction and replicas, hide painting, leather work, fine wood working and carpentry.

All picture frames are created by Thompson.
