The 2017-2018 Selkirk Pro-Musica Concert Series continues with a Christmas celebration presented by Lizzy Hoyt and her band performing Monday, December 4 at the Shambhala Music & Performance Hall in Nelson.

This award-winning Celtic-folk singer presents Ancient Carols for a Winter’s Night —s ongs of joy, peace, and celebration to bring light and warmth to a cold December evening.

An acclaimed songwriter, Lizzy Hoyt is one of Canada’s most powerful performing artists. She toured for ten years as a side musician before pursuing her own projects. Hoyt has been praised for her mastery of the fiddle, guitar and harp while her voice has been described as “otherworldly,” “angelic,” and “pure.” Known for bringing Canadian history to life with music, she was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Governor General of Canada for her outstanding contribution to commemorating Canadian history through music

Hoyt has always felt a strong connection to the ancient melodies of early carols from Europe and the British Isles. Many of the early melodies date to Pagan times and as such, are perfectly suited to the sounds and colours of the Celtic musical palette. The songs tell the ancient stories of Christmas—the three wise men, King Herrod and King Wenceslas.

The Shambhala Music and Performance Hall at the Selkirk College 10th St. Campus will provide the intimate setting for this fantastic concert. Join us on December 4th at 7:30 p.m. for this joyous performance. Tickets are $15 and available at Otter Books and at the door.

The Selkirk Concert Society gratefully acknowledges the generous grants from the Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiatives Program that has made this concert possible, as well as grants from the BC Touring Council and the Osprey Foundation who support the society’s Youth Engagement Program.
