Major Kevin DeBiasio, Unit Public Affairs Representative for the West Kootenay Air Cadets said the last group of Cadets recently departed for Summer Training.

The Air Cadets aged 12 and 13 were from Trail, Castlegar, Nelson and Grand Forks.

Major DeBiasio said the cadets were heading to the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre near Victoria and will be attending the General Training Course — a two-week course for cadets who have recently joined the Cadet Program.

“This is my first time flying . . . so I’m excited to be going away for a few weeks,” said Cadet Nicola Anderson of 561 Nelson.

During the summer training experience cadets will participate in a variety of activities including Drill and Ceremonial, Music, Marksmanship, Aviation, Aerodrome Operations, Aircraft Manufacturing and Maintenance, Aerospace, and Aircrew Survival.

Other cadets are Marshall Fry and Matthew Pahl from Trail; Nicholas Gerrard and Reegan Stetsko-Kallin from Castlegar; and Dainielle Schwaier from Grand Forks.

General Training is one of more than a dozen courses available to Cadets.

There is no cost for the cadets to attend Summer Training and the cadets receive a small training bonus.

This summer approximately 800 course cadets will learn new skills at Albert head Cadet Training Centre and 80 staff cadets will learn valuable leadership skills.
