The Kootenay Book Weekend celebrates its 15th annual event this fall, and organizers have decided to go out on a high note by closing with this chapter of the much-loved annual event.

“It just seems like the right time,” says founding member Victoria Vaseleniuck. “We have been planning and running this event for 16 years now, and so much has changed. There are other really amazing literary events happening in the region, from the Banff Book Discussion Weekend which inspired our weekend to our community’s own Elephant Mountain Literary Festival. We are all happy to throw our enthusiastic support behind those events.”

The featured author and special guest this year is Caroline Adderson, a Canadian novelist and short story writer who has published four novels, two short story collections and two books for young readers.

“It seems the perfect ending to an amazing run for the Kootenay Book Weekend,” Vaseleniuck says. “Caroline was actually our very first guest author 15 years ago when we started out, so it seems fitting to have her back to close the book, so to speak.”

Guest authors over the years have included Joy Kogawa, Anita Rau Badami, Elizabeth Hay and Michael Christie. This year’s event is September 21-23 at the Best Western Baker Street InninNelson, BC. Registration is open now, and organisers have released the list of books that will be the focus of the weekend.

In addition to Adderson’s Ellen in Pieces, the weekend will be focusing on The Circle byDave Eggers, The Break by Katherina Vermette, and Do Not Say We Have Nothing byMadeleine Thien.

Early bird registration for the Kootenay Book Weekend is encouraged! Being the last year, this 15th anniversary celebration will be bigger and better than ever. The $105 early registration fee for the Kootenay’s biggest book club includes all events, from author talk to discussion groups, lunches, book-themed trivia, toonie book tableand more.
