Kootenay Blues Society presents another outstanding performer as Lloyd Jones makes his way to the West Kootenay for two shows, Saturday in Nelson and Sunday in Balfour.

Jones, based out of Portland Oregon and a master of the soulful understatement, the raw growl and the groove, will be in Nelson during the annual Road Kings Queen City Cruise weekend.

You see it in his face when he plays — the ear-to-ear grin, the soul-gripping grimace when he bites off another stinging note. You hear it in every heart-aching lyric, sung in a voice that genuinely shares with you life’s hard knocks and hard-won secrets.

This is genuine, highly danceable Louisiana Funk mixed with Memphis Soul and Kansas city swing. He’s been on stage with blues heavy weights, Albert Collins, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Dr. John, John Hammond, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy.

Jones will be performing with the Uphill Blues Band (Clint Swanson, Tim Bullen, Mark Spielman, Jaq Tafaro and Jim Fike) on Saturday, September 7 @ Finley’s at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 8 at the Balfour Beach Inn at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the venues. Advance tickets and reserve seating are recommended as this is car show weekend in Nelson.
