Did you know there are an estimated 30 million men, women and children who are victims of slavery and oppression throughout the world, more than there has ever been in the history of the world?

A group of local, like-minded individuals and some of our areas most notable musicians want to do something about it and are going to host a a dinner and concert featuring local talent to raise awareness of this issue as well as financial support to free modern day slaves Saturday, January 31 at the Junction Church in South Slocan.

This event coincides with the passing of Pete Seeger one year ago this January.

An inspiring artist and justice seeker himself, Pete Seeger’s music will be the theme of the night. Local talent will cover Pete’s songs with their own unique style as well as play some of their originals.

All money raised from this event will be given directly to International Justice Mission, a global organization protecting the poor from violence throughout the developing world. IJM partners with local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems.

The goal is to raise enough for one rescue mission, which costs an estimated $4500.

Only 150 tickets, which include dinner and the concert, at $40 each must be purchased in advance.

They are available at Eddy’s Music in Nelson, The Biggest Little Fruit Stand in Castlegar (in the McDonald’s strip mall) and Gaia Tree in Winlaw or call 250-354-9749.

The event is being held at Junction Church (2480 Eden Road by Mt. Sentinel
School) from 5 p.m.- 11p.m.
