Theatre looms large at the Capitol, where a cast of 21 from ages 12 to 19are set to entertain folks of all ages with James and the Giant Peach, a Summer Youth Theatre Program production. Showtimes are July Thursday, July 25, Friday, 26, and Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m.

“We’re inviting everyone to come out and get your summer live theatre fun,” says Capitol Theatre Executive Director Stephanie Fischer. “We have a wonderful and amazingly talented cast and the stage design, puppets and imagery will blow you away.”

Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach is a musical for the whole family with a memorable musical score. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach — and that launches a journey of enormous proportions.

Critics have pronounced that James and the Giant Peach is a “masterpeach!”

“Live performance is the ultimate storytelling vehicle,” said Fischer. “Sharing a story with a roomful of strangers is a uniquely rewarding experience. And in the case of James and the Giant Peach, it’s also great, quirky fun for the whole family.”

The long-running Summer Youth Theatre Program at the Capitol has provided several generations of youth with profound experiences, life-long memories, and a deep appreciation for the arts. A thank you goes to our show sponsors: Nelson & District Credit Union, National Theatre School, Rotary Club, City of Nelson and the Province of BC.

Tickets are available at capitoltheatre.ca or at the Box Office, which is open Tuesday to Friday, from noon to 4:30 p.m.
