IODE Kokanee Chapter and Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association (KERPA) are delighted to announce their new three-year patron partnership. IODE has pledged $30,000 over the next three years in support of KERPA’s vehicle and medical equipment fund.

The agreement comes as KERPA welcomes its new official designation as a charity by the Federal Government’s Canada Revenue Agency.

Says KERPA President and Founder, Dr. Nicholas Sparrow, “IODE has been our greatest supporter from the beginning of KERPA three years ago. We are so grateful for this generous commitment they have made.”

“And, we are thrilled that our new charitable designation will now allow us to offer donors and supporters, like IODE, tax deductible receipts for donations toward our work. Being recognized for our charitable work by CRA reinforces the value of the contributions that so many have already put toward our mission. We are so proud to support the expert care offered by our local paramedics, firefighters, police, search and rescue and all emergency response volunteers.”

IODE Kokanee Chapter has donated more than $17,000 toward KERPA’s emergency medical response program to date, including a $10,000 sponsorship of their emergency response vehicle.

IODE Executive Board and Members state, “Since the beginning, our Board and members have been unanimous in their support for the important contribution Dr. Nic and his team are making to our community. His presence at critical incidents and accidents helps saves lives and supports our wonderful first response teams including paramedics, police, firefighters and search and rescue. We know a gift towards KERPA is a way for us to take care of our neighbours. We are very pleased to make this commitment as their patrons for the next three years.”

KERPA was formed in May 2016 with the goal of saving lives and helping the most critical ill and injured patients in our community by dispatching volunteer emergency physician support to imminent or actual threat to life emergency calls at the request of BC Emergency Health Services.

Since Dr. Sparrow began volunteering in this role in 2014, he has responded to more than 380 emergency calls, including motor vehicle collisions, cardiac arrests and overdoses.
