Residents of the Taghum Improvement District Water System can go back to almost regular water use after Interior Health relaxed the boil water advisory.

Tests by the IHA testing lab taken September 14th and 16th show no significant level of Total Coliform present.

“The IHA water protection officer has communicated that it is no longer appropriate to remain under a boil water order,” said Darrell Hicks of the Taghum Improvement District Water System.

“(IH) does insist we remain under a water quality advisory.”

Hicks said the IH rationale is that because our source of water Smallwood Creek is susceptible to turbidity events and currently there is no effective method in place to filter turbidity from the system.

“They believe the single barrier of chlorination can easily be defeated by turbidity in the water entering the system putting it at risk to bacteria,” he said.

Earlier this month, IH issued a Boil Water Advisory for all users of Smallwood Creek, including the Taghum Improvement District Water System.
