For those baffled by computers and technology, there’s help: The Nelson Public Library is now offering assistance thanks to funding from the Community Access Program (CAP).

The program offers one-on-one help with computer programs and technology.

CAP intern Winter Calcagno comes to Nelson from Concordia University, and programs in cultural studies and electro-acoustics that involved highly specialized computer-based audio-engineering.

But it’s a lifetime of computer that has really resulted in a high degree of comfort and know-how, and she’s excited to encourage computer comfort in others.

“I know how overwhelming it can be,” she says.

“Everything moves so fast in this information technology-based world, and it’s easy to feel left behind. It takes a certain amount of bravery to dive in, to be included. I feel privileged to be able to help people who want to learn to navigate that world.”

Anyone can book an appointment to learn basic computer navigation, internet search skills, Apple iWorks and Microsoft Office programs, Email, Skype, Facebook and Youtube help, Pinterest and Tumblr, as well as how to download eBooks and Audiobooks on a variety of devices.

There is no charge.

In addition to timeslots for scheduled appointments, there are also drop-in times available for quick questions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30pm and Tuesdays 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.

Email CAP at NPLCAP@gmail.com or call 352-6333 to book an appointment. CAP is funded by the Government of Canada.

The program runs until the end of March.
