Green Halloween celebrations at Hall Street Plaza a start for better future

A unique all-ages Halloween event is happening at Hall Street Plaza on Baker Street, 3:30-4:30 pm on Monday, October 31st.
This Green Hallowe’en celebration welcomes adults and children as either an alternative or add-on to trick-or-treating downtown.
Participants will share their costume characters’ voices about the world they want in A Council of All Beings. The event will also include songs, mural-making, and photo and video opportunities, while bringing Hallowe’en closer to its roots in earth-based equality.
A group of friends is organizing this Green Hallowe’en as part of the Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice‘s 10 days of action.
People of all ages and genders are welcome. Participants voices will be heard through this global initiative in the lead up to the important international climate talks (COP22) being held in Marrakech, Morocco, November 7-18.
At these talks details will be worked out on how to implement last year’s historic Paris Climate Accord, which was ratified by Canada earlier this month.
The global initiative and Green Hallowe’en will highlight the need to integrate climate justice into government actions, respecting human rights – including women’s and Indigenous rights – and social, economic and ecological justice.
The Green Hallowe’en will be a fun way to express ideas for how to create a better future for our community and the world. Co-sponsors include Kootenay Society for Lifelong Learning, Citizens’ Climate Lobby-Nelson Chapter, Nelson Women’s Centre and West Kootenay EcoSociety.
