This week (May 16-20) is Local Government Awareness Week and the Regional District of Central Kootenay, the City of Nelson, the Villages of Nakusp, Salmo and Slocan, and the Town of Creston are inviting residents to learn more about the role these local governments play in their communities by hosting a number of free and fun events.

“We are excited to partner with some of our member municipalities to celebrate Local Government Awareness Week,” says Karen Hamling, Chair of the RDCK.

“We work together to deliver many important services to residents. We invite the public to come out to meet staff and elected officials, ask us questions, and learn more about what we do.”

Residents are invited to take a quiz about local government in the region for a chance to win a fabulous prize pack. The quiz will be available at the events being hosted around the area. The winner will be announced on June 1st.

The schedule of events for Local Government Awareness Week is attached.
