The Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society will be hosting their annual general meeting on Monday, June 3, 2019, at the Queens Bay Church in Queens Bay.

The meeting runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

This is an opportunity for any interested community members, volunteers and FOKLSS members to come and learn about what has been happening at FOKLSS and what they have in store. Recently the organization has had changes in staff and board member and they have lots of new projects on the go.

“We are very excited about all the programs we have planned for this upcoming year,” said Camille LeBlanc the new assistant manager.

“It is important that youth have the opportunity to learn about their lake, especially around Kokanee Salmon and how climate change will impact our lake,” Alyssa Taburiaux the FOKLSS summer student added.

The AGM is also a great place to get membership renewed. Cost is $25 dollars for an individual to become a member and all money goes directly towards FOKLSS projects.

Currently, any money raised will go towards a project that will improve spawning conditions for the shoreline spawning Kokanee, who have been negatively impacted by the low lake levels. They will also be voting in new board members, anyone who is interested in becoming a board member should email info@friendsofkootenaylake.ca. At the AGM everyone will have the opportunity to learn more about this project and others.

There will be live music by the harpist Dawna Mclennan, information booths run by local organizations, and light refreshments.  To find out more and register go to friendsofkootneylake.ca
