Dismantling the Trans-Pacific Partnership

The Nelson Chapter of Council of Canadians is hosting three speakers to learn more about one of the largest multilateral corporate rights agreements, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
This deal is being pursued by the Canadian government along with a growing list of 11 other countries.
The event is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday (June 1) at Bigby Place, 509 Front Street in Nelson.
Local Council of Canadians volunteer Sandra Nelken says “Canadians need to know about the impact deals like the TPP can have on our right to run our own country.”
“These deals can really hurt our public health, the environment, our internet freedom, food systems and much more,” Nelken said.
The success of large multilateral agreements, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), has been limited in large part because of popular opposition.
“We can build similar opposition to the TPP by educating each other about the agreement,” Nelken said.
Speakers include:
- Cindy McCallum Miller – President of Castlegar Local of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers
- Alex Atamanenko – Former member of Parliament for BC Southern Interior
- Harjap Grewal – Pacific Regional Organizer for the Council of Canadians
