Cadets experience glider training in Trail

The 561 Osprey Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron Nelson recently had it first training of the year at theTrail Regional Airport.
There cadets experienced the thrill of flight in Gliders and Powered Aircraft.
“I was very excited to go flying. I just joined cadets and this is what I wanted to do,” said Cadet Elias Hibberson.
The cadets each received a flight in the Glider and the Tow Plane. The cadets also worked on moving the aircraft to and from the runway.
During the flights, the cadets were shown how the flight controls of the aircraft work and the effect they have on the aircraft. They were also shown how the instruments work.
The pilots of the aircraft are reserve members of the Canadian Armed Forces or senior cadets and volunteer to give the cadets the experience of flight. All the pilots received their initial pilot licences from the Air Cadet program.
Since the start of the training year, the squadron has welcomed new cadets from Nelson, South Slocan and Nakusp.
The Nelson Air Cadet Squadron meets are every Wednesday from 6:15 pm to 9 p.m. at the Nelson Eagles Hall at 641 Baker St.
Quick Facts:
- The aircraft are owned by the British Columbia Provincial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada and operated by the Canadian Armed Forces in support of the Air Cadet program
- There is little or no cost for the cadets to be a member of Air Cadets and Summer Training is no cost.
