Books can open whole worlds — you just need to have one first.

This holiday season a local partnership aims to put a book under every tree for all in the community.

This holiday season a local partnership aims to put a book under every tree for Nelson Food Cupboard’s ‘Festive Food Days’.

Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, the Nelson Public Library,  Railtown Coffeehouse, Otter Books, Blue Sky Clothing Co., Pixie Candy Shop and Play It Again Kids have teamed up to see a book included for every member of the family – adults included.

To help reach their goal, they are requesting donations of new books.

“This is a great initiative,” says Teen and Literacy Services Coordinator Melodie Rae Storey. “Every person deserves the gift of reading, now and throughout the year.”

Donations should be unwrapped and may be dropped off at the participating places from November 28 to December 13.
