While the West Kootenay’s black bears spent the fall harvesting salmon, insects and your neighbour’s garbage, Selkirk College students and faculty at the Black Bear Review were hard at work foraging for literary and artistic submissions for its latest issue: Winter Paws.

This issue will lead you through cardboard doors to a forest of burning paper dolls, it’ll dump you in the river, gasping for breath, and it’ll serenade you with the golden sounds of a dead man’s trumpet. Winter Paws: Vol. 2, Issue 1, is a veritable feast of varied delicacies that we hope you will savour from your respective dens.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

Ever ravenous and never the types of bears to rest on their haunches, the Black Bear Review is on the hunt for submissions for their Spring Issue (a full colour print edition).

Black Bear Review is looking for fresh, exciting, creative writing and visual art on the theme of WATER.

They’re looking for submissions that might consider these and other questions: What does it mean to live in fluid bodies? How does water connect us? Has a body of water ever meant something to you? Do you swim, ski, skate, paddle, or otherwise navigate watery landscapes? How might you translate that experience using a creative medium?

The deadline for submissions is January 26, 2018.
