In the last few weeks British Columbia has experienced some record low temperatures and snowfalls. Although some British Columbians are thrilled with the conditions at the ski hills many folks who are experiencing homelessness find this weather to be a life threatening challenge.

On Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 Nelson CARES Society will host the 6th annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY). The Coldest Night of the Year is a walk-a-thon fundraiser that raises awareness and funds for the most vulnerable right here in our community.

Nelson CARES preservers, maintains, and develops safe affordable housing, but sometimes a place to live is not enough and people need some support to maintain that housing. The Ready For Home program does just that and the funds raised by Coldest Night of the Year fund this program.

Nelson CARES wishes to thank their 2020 sponsors Valhalla Pure Nelson the ‘one and only’ Lead Sponsor and we couldn’t be more honored with their returning support. Shambhala Music Festival and the Kootenay Co-op are our amazing Supporting Sponsors. Cover Architecture, Studio 9 Architecture and Planning Ltd., Ellenwood Homes, Bowick Electric, Hume Hotel & Spa, Kootenay Glass and Mirror and Derek Diener & Melanie Ward Dominion Lending Centre mortgage brokers have all signed on as Event Sponsors.

Nelson CARES would like to invite everyone to spend some time on the streets on Saturday, Feb 22nd and consider the challenges faced by those who spend years there.

Organizers are looking for volunteers, team captains, walkers, and donors. Come out and help make Nelson a warmer place everyone. Head to www.cnoy.org/nelson.
