The Nelson and District Arts Council has proudly hosted events that have become instrumental in supporting local artists for over five creative decades. Our flagship event, ArtWalk 2020 is currently in the middle of a very successful but very different season.

The Arts Council had to make some significant changes to the ArtWalk model to ensure that the community of arts-lovers and artists stay healthy and safe. Luckily everyone has been on board to make this work including our fabulous business community. The artists’ work has been hosted on virtual venues on the social media pages of participating businesses.

Our first live stream opening was a success with over 1700 views on the facebook live-stream. Join the Nelson and District Arts Council and ArtWalk 2020 for the 2nd Opening Live-Stream Event hosted by Lisel Forst on Friday, July 31st from 6 – 9 p.m.

Performances will include music by The Rob Funk Trio – Rob Funk, Brian Rosen, & Jesse Lee with special guests Ren Funk Hebert and Juon Jazz Hebert, an ariel performance by The Meows: Axel Jay and Moshe Nosson, Violinist Aurelien Sudan, Rhythm Dance Orchestra, and DJ MorninGlory.

This platform still allows for local performance artists to be paid for their work in a climate where almost all summer performance opportunities have been cancelled.

The digital gallery for all the artists’ work is on the NDAC website and sales have been brisk. This year 100% of sales will go directly to the artists, another way the Arts Council is supporting the local arts community.

ArtWalk has a wonderful reputation as one of the best events of the summer… it might look different but ArtWalk will still be a highlight of the summer. The Nelson and District Arts Council is ready and willing to continue to support the community in any way they can.

They believe in the power of art – the power to engage you fully, bringing you into the present moment and reducing stress.
