The Nelson and District Arts Council has proudly hosted events that have become instrumental in supporting local artists for over five creative decades. Our flagship event, ArtWalk 2020 is currently in the early stages of preparation and the Arts Council’s priority is to keep our community of arts-lovers and artists healthy and safe.

The Arts Council is working hard to be proactive during the COVID-19 health care crisis. We have been meeting with municipal and provincial government officials to ensure that we are up to date on the situation and making the most informed decisions.

“We plan to continue to support our community of artists and creatives going forward, whatever that may look like,” spokesperson said.

“As it stands now, ArtWalk 2020 will continue, but the situation is changing rapidly so there may be changes as we move forward. The Arts Council is looking at numerous different options including digital galleries and live stream openings.”

Call for ArtWalk 2020 Artists

Are you a visual artist who wants to share your creativity with the community? Sign up today to be involved in  the 32nd annual ArtWalk, a staple of Kootenay culture. The Nelson District Arts Council will do all the heavy lifting: taking care of the promotion, securing the perfect space, and ensuring that your art is seen by our art-loving community. The application fee for ArtWalk 2020 artists and venues have been waived for everyone in an effort to alleviate financial pressures related to the current COVID-19 economy.

If you are an ArtWalk regular, you know how easy the experience can be with the help of the ArtWalk Coordinator. “One of the reasons artists come back again and again to the ArtWalk experience is the support I give them,” says three-time returning ArtWalk coordinator Stephanie Myers.

ArtWalk has a wonderful reputation as one of the best events of the summer… fun, culture, and beauty. The Nelson and District Arts Council is ready and willing to continue to support the community in any way they can. They believe in the power of art – the power to engage you so fully, bringing you into the present moment and reducing stress.

Details and applications are now available on the Nelson and District Arts Council website, www.ndac.ca or you can contact the ArtWalk Coordinator – Stephanie Myers at 250.505.7410, artwalk@ndac.ca.
