The 561 Osprey Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron welcomed two guess speakers to the Squadron during weekly drill sessions in Nelson.

On November 2, RCMP Inspector Tom Roy of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment visited the squadron.

Inspector Roy inspected the Cadets then spent 15 minutes talking with the cadets about the RCMP in the Nelson area, career paths in the RCMP and stories of his time in the RCMP

On November 9, Bill Andreaschuk, President of the Nelson Legion joined the cadets.  Like Inspector Roy, Andreaschuk inspected the cadets and then spoke to the cadets about the role of the Royal Canadian Legion and how it helps local veterans.

He also thanked the cadets for their help with the Legion’s Annual Poppy Drive.

The squadron meets every Wednesday from 6:15-9:00 p.m. at the Nelson Eagles Hall at 641 Baker St.

The squadron welcomes new cadets who are between the ages of 12 and 18.  Adults who would like to volunteer or have a part-time paid position with the squadron are also welcome.

Quick Facts

  • Cadets is the largest youth organization operated by the Government of Canada
  • There is little or no cost for the cadets to be a member of Air Cadets and Summer Training is no cost.
