Nelson Council Adopts 25 Point Economic Stimulus and Financial Stability Plan

At a special Council meeting held Thursday, April 23, Mayor and Council adopted a 25 point Economic Stimulus and Financial Stability Plan.

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) announced Tuesday in a media release that the Junior B league will seek financial assistance from the provincial and federal governments due to the monetary impact as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city is facing up to a $1.6-million financial deficit this year as a result of the response to Covid-19, but those costs won’t be borne on the backs of Nelson taxpayers.

The city’s chief financial officer, Colin McClure, recently painted a financial picture of how the city will fare as it navigates the effects of the virus and attempts to alleviate its impact on Nelsonites.

In a media release Monday, Interior Health said B.C.’s testing COVID-19 strategy has been expanded to include anyone with cold, influenza or COVID-19-like symptoms, however mild.

The release said symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses including the flu and common cold.
